What Was the Motivation Behind the Redesign?

Personal Experience

As a job seeker for past 8 months, I struggled with the job applications which used Workday.

Identifying Issue

I noticed several UX design flaws that needed improvement.

Goal

My goal was to solve design problems and improve the user experience.

Timeframe

I spent one week analyzing and redesigning the platform.

What Made Workday a Challenge for Job Seekers?

1.

Too Many Logins

Separate accounts for every company confuse password managers and create extra friction for users.

2.

Manual Skills Entry

The skills section fails to autofill, even with ATS-friendly resumes, forcing applicants to manually input each skill individually a tedious and time-consuming process.

3.

Lack of Design-Focused Fields

Fields like “Field of Study” exclude design disciplines such as Human-Computer Interaction or UX Design, with no option to add custom text.

4.

Impersonal Experience

The lengthy 6-step application process feels disconnected, and rejections often come through generic bot emails after users invest significant time. Additionally, external tasks are required even after completing the application.

Problem 1

My Solution

A single Workday account works across all companies.

Problem 2

Users repeatedly enter the same information despite uploading a resume.

My Solution

A pre-filled profile stores resume details and FAQs, auto-filling applications.

"Apply with Existing Profile" uses the information already added to your profile. You can easily edit your profile by navigating to the "My Profile" tab at the top.

While I concentrated on redesigning two key areas, this project made me realize just how much potential there is to improve the entire experience. It was a fun and rewarding process, and I enjoyed imagining how these changes could make a real difference for job seekers.

What Did I Learn from Redesigning Workday?

1. Redesigning an app I had extensively used highlighted the potential for improvement, as many others faced similar struggles.

2. The challenge of working within brand constraints while having creative freedom pushed me to balance both design and functionality.

3. Seeing others share the same frustrations emphasized the importance of a user-centered approach in redesigns.
